Surprising Spring Sandal Pick – Derek Lam!
So we should be clear, this is only a surprising pick coming from us. As we have stated many times, we fear an ankle strap. We also tend to shy away from any sort of wooden clog like heel. We do think others (people in Brooklyn) look cute in these look how hard I’m not trying low heels, but they are just not for us. Enter Derek Lam. He has some how de-frumped the style (with a slightly higher heel) while maintaining its laidback, breezy summer feel and the result is simply gorgeous. We’ve already imagined them with all our summer staples – skinny white jeans, cutoffs, full skirts – and now they must be ours.
A Perfect Pastel
We fell instantly in love with Repetto’s sea-green patent ballet flats. We’ve always been fans of the brands classic styles and this incarnation is an easy way to dip your toe (haha) into spring pastel trend. We’re pretty into the whole pastel thing that is happening right now, but we realize that pale pink pants and lavender pencil skirts may not be for everyone. Repetto’s sweet ballerinas let you try out the trend with zero risk. When paired with a standard jeans, tee, blazer look, they’ll keep you look casually polished and super current.
Hit the Road – Tod’s Desert Boots
We love a desert boot. A classic style for both men and women the desert boot has a certain world traveler quality to it, as though wearing them will turn a seemingly ordinary day into an adventure. We picture ourselves strolling the streets of Istanbul or Buenos Aires in this perfect pair from Tod’s. A sleek and refined take on the iconic shoes, the Tod’s version elevates the practical style to a chic, modern, go anywhere favorite. The slim leather sole and thin laces add polish while the padded collar will keep them comfortable, even after a long day of exploring.
Resort Picks – Surf Inspired
We’ve just listed our ‘classic’ resort picks inspired by Gidget’s Hawaiian adventures. We continue building our dream island wardrobe with our favorite surf inspired picks. We should not even have to say that our inspiration for these styles comes from the 80s cinema gem North Shore. We could probably recite this movie in its entirety and we definitely quote it often to people who have no idea what we are talking about (You only got one?!). While the heroine Kaini might be the quintessential laid back Hawaiin girl with a flower in her hair, there is no shortage of neon (or male tank tops) in this movie. A great reminder that sporty bright pieces are always a good idea at the beach.
Resort Picks – Keep It Classic
We’re heading to Hawaii soon which means our undying love of resort wear is finally justified. Woohoo! So selfishly we are all about sandals these days. We were maybe ten years old on our last trip to the islands so we’re starting our resort browsing with classic styles that are in line with our idea of a traditional Hawaiian vacation. Please note we are taking all of our ‘classic Hawaiinan’ cues from Gidget Goes Hawaiian. We’ll probably skip the floral print one pieces but pretty neutrals and pale pastels are definitely on the list.
A Gorgeous Green from B Brian Atwood
Perhaps its because our sign is Taurus and thus we’re very attracted to all things in an emerald hue, but we just can’t stop staring at B Brian Atwood’s Felicite sling back. The color is insane. A bold bright green that while fresh and spring-y is also the perfect compliment to holiday looks. A novel alternative to red for your festive party attire, the snake embossing is a subtle modern touch. With a closed toe, they aren’t too bare for winter, but the sling back style will work well with floral dresses and crisp tailored shorts through spring.
Stalking Spring – Casadei’s Neon Pumps
There are a lots of neon shoes out there but they are usually found in a mall store whose name involves exclamation points. $10 shoes are fine for rounding out a Nikki Minaj Halloween costume, but as die-hard neon fans here at SWW we are so happy it’s finally getting the high-class treatment. We’re dying for Casadei’s glossy pumps. Super pointy toe, super high heel and available in the full range of highlighter shades – orange, pink, green and yellow. Our favorite detail of these is the slim gray heel. It’s the perfect compliment to the bold tones and adds a refinement to the playful hues.
Update – Get Yourself Some Leopard
As you know, we view leopard as a truly essential part of any shoe wardrobe. Given our love for the print, we felt it was time to update our leopard list with our favorite styles in stores this season. We stumbled upon our perfect pair of pointy leopard pumps (as seen here) at Heathrow Airport on our way home from Paris. Cheers to Heathrow’s Duty Free options! Browsing (and clearly buying) at the Kurt Geiger store was a lovely way to spend our layover. While we adore our simple pumps, we wouldn’t mind adding another leopard style to our closet so while our update includes our picks of this seasons basic styles, we’ve thrown in some boots and wedges for those looking for who like us, may be looking for a second (or third, or fourth) leopard option.
Oh Hello Resort – Alexander Wang
We’ve just discussed our joy at the release of resort collections coinciding with blissfull October 80 degree temps in Los Angeles. Resort shopping is just the thing to keep us from getting all sad about the fact that we can’t buy any sweaters. We love Alexander Wang, and we especially love his shoes. They are always the perfect thing to edge up even the most simple low key outfits. Your favorite black dress or old pair of jeans will look instant on trend when paired with an Alexander Wang shoe. His latest resort offerings are no exception.
